So, it sounds like Mary is starting to recover more from the childbirth. The lady that they had paid to stay with them has now gone home and she got a whopping $25 for 2 weeks! Unbelievable comapred to what that would cost today in 2012. Another lady now appears to be there to give some help, but maybe not as intense as before. Bonnie is at least back in the room. It has been cold and windy here this weekend in 2012, but the weather today is rather nice. Beth has gone to work at the hospital to work some over-time and Rachel is at work today too. Caleb and I were set to watch the Daytona 500 on TV today but it is raining in Daytona. I still need to write an article for the church newsletter.

Cemetery Lot

I think it was rather a big deal that Bonnie paid off the cemetery lot since he mentioned it both days. Which, I agree with; that is a rather big deal. Here in 2011, busy, busy busy. Soccer practice, work, church. School starts back next week. We had Meyerhoeffer family reunion this past Saturday and had a great time with Beth's family at the Beach a few weeks ago to celebrate her parent's 60th wedding anniversary. I guess all that said here just to say, family ties are important.

Whew. Ok, got caught up. I am guessing that Ollie and Harry were romantically inclined and that she was staying with Bonnie and Mary, but things didn't go so well on this trip and possibly that relationship ended. Obviously there was a lot more there that went on that wasn't written about.

Holiday

Went to store for tobacco. Got sunburnt outdoors. Mary phoned to Loam. Harry came down at 4:00 p.m. and stayed for supper. Left at 9:00 p.m. We went to bed about 9:40.
In 2011 today is 235th birthday of the USA. It is also Beth's birthday today. We gave her Winnie the Pooh themed gifts this year as there is a new Winnie the Pooh movie coming out in a few weeks and she likes Pooh. She got a Winnie the Pooh cake, Pooh books and a wall hanging with Pooh characters on it. We had lunch out at Applebee's and tonight after Rachel gets off from work we are having a cookout with steaks on the grill and Mom is coming up. Then we will all go to Parkway Wesleyan Church to watch fireworks from Vinton, Roanoke, and possibly even Salem. Calling for storms this afternoon, hope that those don't mess up the plans. No fireworks in 1927? Maybe that was not yet a tradition or maybe the Elmore's just valued the sleep more after a day of getting caught up on some housework. Can't say as I blame them.

Got all caught up on Bonnie's diary. Interesting reading about his trip to Clifton Forge and his mother's illness. I also enjoyed reading that they stopped in Cloverdale and got soft drinks. In 2011 we live near Cloverdale now and I know right where that train stop would have been. I think I am too tuckered out tonight to write too much more about our cruise. Maybe later. I love seeing these churches mentioned that are still around today and that I know something about. Belmont Baptist jumped right in there and didn't waste any time after school was out to start VBS. I wonder how different VBS is today from 1927? I also enjoyed reading about Baby Jane's watch and having to get a new one. Just a little advanced warning: Here in 2011 we will be going on a cruise on Saturday to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary and Mom is going along as well as the kids. So, if I don't work ahead this weekend, which I probably won't. There won't be any new posts for a week or so, but I will try and get caught up again after I get back.

Well, Bonnie and Mary are both still not feeling well. I still say Mary is pregnant, I think. At least they took my advice from the other day and they all went to the theater, except Norman, and they seemed to have had a good time. On this Memorial Day weekend in 2011, we are action packed. We as a family went out to eat last night and bought clothes for our upcoming cruise to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. Today I officiated a wedding at Smith Mountain Lake. It was pretty. Beth accompanied me. Then Caleb and I and Ben Nicely watched the UEFA Champions league soccer game on TV. Barcelona beat Manchester United 3-1. Caleb was disappointed. Tomorrow we have church and then Caleb and I are going to Charlotte, NC for the Coke 600 NASCAR race. Then on Monday, we are all going to a Salem Red Sox baseball game in one of the VIP suites and then possibly to see William Byrd varsity boys play in a regional play-off soccer game...whew...but a lot of fun!

Mary attended social for school faculty at 1:00 p.m. Annah Lee and Baby Jane went on fishing trip with Eunice Linkenhoker and Russell. I went down town in a.m. to Bank. Sent Bond Coal Co. check for $5.00. Went to Dr. Hagan's office at 1:00 p.m. Took a walk. Met Annah Lee and Baby Jane at 5:10. Got a watch for Annah Lee. $14.95.

Went to Jones' Pharmacy at noon for a sponge. Got check for $1.56 cashed at Metropolitan office. Mary went to see Aunt Rosa Raines. Fannie came home with her.

I wrote all day on Specification for E. A. White. Paid on cemetery lot at noon. Took a walk over Randolph Street bridge. Worked until 5:15. Mr. Lugar took me home in his car from Carter's drug store.
